Good to Nature, Good to People, Good to Business: A Holistic Blue Economy is the Answer
This unique introductory workshop is a roadmap for sustainable business based on the Blue Economy principles and made for everyone interested in saving the world: Students, Entrepreneurs, Start-Ups, Universities, NGOs. It is the first time this will be presented in London in this way. You will gain a deeper understanding of how to design a holistic business model. Through Systems Design and the Blue Economy principles we will present you a framework entrepreneurs, innovators, students, University affiliates, and NGO’s can use. Throughout the morning we will explore how some of these basic principles have already been successfully applied by entrepreneurs in other countries. Over some homemade lunch we will then discuss how these learnings could influence your entrepreneurial future. To close the workshop, we will have a world-café discussion to summarise potential learnings.
What is the Blue Economy?
The Blue Economy is a report presented by Prof Gunter Pauli (founder of ZERI, Institute for Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives) to the Club of Rome in 2009. Based on Systems Thinking, the Blue Economy is a holistic entrepreneurial framework. It intends to achieve zero waste by adding value to existing waste streams thus turning external costs into profit centres. A thriving business uses natural resources more efficiently by replenishing it and thus having a healthy profit margin. To eliminate potential misconceptions, Blue Economy is called blue, because our sky is blue, as is our ocean and the planet seen from space. The Blue Economy is also applied in the Marine field by the UN as holistic approach to restore our oceans ecosystems. The Blue Economy framework is now globally adapted by designers, entrepreneurs and governments to generate abundant access to clean water, organic food and energy. In addition to supporting a healthier lifestyle the Blue Economy provides new job opportunities introducing innovative ways of applying the knowledge of nature for product and process design. Since we need an alternative economy, which works globally, Blue Economy seems to be the obvious alternative.Watch this explanation about the Blue Economy
