In the spirit of New Year’s resolutions, our newest member to SWV, Hope from Fresh Perception Therapy, hosted a ‘Health and Well-being Awareness Day’ on Wednesday 19th February. The event offered local community members the chance to participate in a variety of free health related activities: yoga and acupuncture; mindfulness and meditation; cognitive behavioural and massage therapy; as well as NHS health checks and foot health care.
As people popped down from the neighbourhood, many embraced the afternoon in its entirety, joining in for a couple of yoga classes, trying a spot of acupuncture, and enjoying a healthy home-made muffin! Unoco Drinks kindly sponsored the event, providing refreshing raw coconut water for the day.
Overall, the day was a great success, with many new faces coming through the door and signing up their interest for continuing activities! Participant feedback revealed that, not only did the Health and Well-being Awareness Day introduce people to some alternative healthy lifestyle choices, but it also got people out of their comfort zone to interact, share ideas and form relationships with their neighbours.
With these high spirits, Small Works will continue to support health and well-being initiatives. We continue to promote Hope’s free mindfulness / meditation sessions held every Monday at 2pm, resident Aldo’s Tai Chi Class held every Tuesday at 6pm and Friday morning at 9.30am, he is also introducing Shaolin Kung-fu on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. We will also be offering Liam a drop-in clinic space for his community-rate acupuncture sessions in the next month.
We hope to see you at one of our weekly sessions and future Health and Well-being Awareness Days!
