Share [verb] to use, occupy, or enjoy (something) jointly with another or others
The act of sharing is something children are actively encouraged to do from a young age and is seen as an essential life skill; children are encouraged to share their possessions, interests and thoughts with others around them and are praised when they do this successfully.
At which point does this valuable skill become restricted? On a daily basis people share with family, friends, maybe work colleagues but this is often as far as our impetus to share goes. It is rare that sharing extends to the wider community.
However, within communities people can share anything; food, ideas, belongings…sharing can save time, money and create new and exciting opportunities. Not to mention it’s FUN!
As part of Global Sharing Day on Sunday the 2nd of June, in collaboration with the people who Share Small Works Victoria enjoyed an afternoon of sun and sharing in the main courtyard. Neighbours came together and swapped dishes from all over the world including Africa, Europe and Asia; as well as snacks, drinks and stories.
The atmosphere was fun, relaxed and significant in reinforcing community spirit on the Vauxhall estate. Many of the residents were meeting one another for the first time and found they had plenty to talk about whilst enjoying the delicious food! Both young and old enjoyed the afternoon immensely and said they would like another sharing event in the future …watch this SPACE!
